Aloha Tofu Blog

Something a little different…

Aloha everyone and thanks for visiting this blog from time to time!

This entry is a little different from our regular blurbs, but it is so important to me that I hope you will take the time to read…My eldest son has had the good fortune for the past 4 years to be a part of Kalani High School’s soccer team. The four years of hard work by all the members of that team and coaching staff (and alumni!) culminated in the first State Soccer Championship for the Falcons ever (you can actually watch the replay of that exciting game here!).

By now many of you have heard about the heartbreaking story of Leo Klink, Kalani’s top attacker, and his mother, Hiroyo.  A simple Google search of “Leo Klink” will bring up the many links to this tragic story.

In many ways, Hiroyo Klink was representative of the ultimate “soccer mom” (as many of you are). Our family was lucky enough to know her and the wonderful son she raised with her husband, Paul. She was a kind, gracious and sincere person.  Always outwardly calm, she was also nervous before the start of any Kalani game, perhaps because she knew how much the team depended on her outstanding son.

A fund has been opened on behalf of Leo to help him continue his education at Bank of Hawaii.  Contributions can be made at any branch. I hope you will consider a donation to help fulfill a mother’s wish.
