We’re an Energy Champion!
Our Energy Award Certificate
Like everyone else these days, cutting back on expenses and being more efficient in our operations is an issue we don’t take lightly. We’ve succeeded in reducing the worry by making some energy efficient changes to our factory. Although the concept of “going green” wasn’t the main priority in our efforts, we’ve learned that saving energy and saving the planet go hand in hand. Someone else noticed our hand in hand solution which allowed us to qualify as a 2009 Department of Energy’s Industrial Technologies Program Energy Champion.
What’s an “Energy Champion”, you ask? They define it as a manufacturing plant that has reduced their year on year energy consumption by at least 250,000 million Btu’s OR at least 15% of total plant energy consumption. In the past couple of years, we’ve done the following to save in any way possible:
1) Installed a 23 kW photovoltaic system.
2) Re-coated our roof with a white ceramic-based coating.
3) Installed and modified existing skylights.
4) Installed solar fans.
5) Adjusted our gas schedule to better reflect usage.
6) Installed more energy efficient fans in our refrigeration units.
7) Modified the refrigeration units with regulators to reduce energy consumption.
Being rewarded for our efforts to save energy has increased our understanding of the importance of being environmentally friendly. An added plus, “going green” also helped us save “green”!
